Serving for life change
Our example is Jesus Christ, His servant attitude in life and work.
As a consequence we will:
Love people by sharing in their lives, learning from each other, at the same time respecting their values and personal choices. An example of this kind of service is the work of Johnny and Marlene Shahwan, in Beit Jala near Bethlehem (West Bank) who run a "Meeting Point" for children and adults, where Palestinians discover hope.
Offer comprehensive help by enabling people to help themselves, by discovering the talents people have and developing their potential. Investing in training and education of all kinds is a high priority. We teach young pastors and evangelists in Africa, Asia and Latin America with a view to strengthening the local church.
Value cultures, because they reflect God's richness of variety and hold great potential. For example, our workers Bernhard and Elke Grupp live with the Canela Indians in the Brazilian rain forest, learning their language and playing a vital role in helping to preserve this culture by translating the Bible, writing Christian songs and creating media in the language of this people.
Offer selfless help, regardless of race, gender and religion. An example is the famine relief in Kenya in recent years. Our partners and their employees have helped thousands of people from Muslim, Christian and tribal backgrounds in the north-east of the country: giving food, drilling wells, ensuring their survival and assuring a sustainable life for many.
Live with integrity, committed to the truth and wishing to have fair and objective discussions with people of other worldviews. We stand for justice and peace in the world. Transparency, in all our finances and project goals, is valued highly by us. We reject any form of corruption. We are life-long learners, accepting our mistakes and remain grateful for any constructive criticism.
